On
Sunday March 6, 2005
at
19:18
hours, Police, Fire and
EMS
units were dispatched to
111 Old Clairton Road
in Pleasant Hills for a reported residential
structure fire with possibly people inside.
Upon the arrival of the first on scene units, it was determined
that a 45-year-old male was still trapped inside on the second floor of
the home.
As Engine 232 established water supply and began to stretch hose
lines and
EMS
prepared to treat the victims, Paramedic
Anthony Trimmer from Medic 51 and Firefighter Kurt Delia from Engine 232, wearing protective gear
and self contained breathing apparatus, entered the first floor where
they encountered heavy smoke and high heat conditions.
The two systematically searched the second floor under
deteriorating conditions. They
found the victim unconscious and not breathing.
In zero visibility, Firefighter Delia and Paramedic Trimmer began
to remove the victim. The
two removed the victim down a hallway and down a flight of stairs to the
front yard where the patient was placed on a stretcher and advanced
medical care was started. The
victim was removed 6 minutes after the first 911 call was made.
Both Anthony and Kurt utilized training, courage and teamwork to
effectively remove this victim from this terrible ordeal.
Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries at
Mercy
Hospital
.
Anthony
and Kurt should be commended for their actions.
