Pittsburgh Summit

September 24 & 25, 2009


 

On September 24 & 25 of 2009 members of the G20 were welcomed to the city of Pittsburgh. The G-20 brings together important industrial and emerging-market countries from around the world.  Together, the G-20 member countries represent around 90% of global gross national product, 80% of world trade (including EU intra-trade) as well as two-thirds of the world's population. The G-20's economic weight and broad membership gives it a high degree of legitimacy and influence over the management of the global economy and financial system.

During the G20 Summit in Pittsburgh resources were on site and available from local, regional, state and federal assets.  With the G20 present, this was the largest event ever hosted in the city of Pittsburgh.  Over 400 Emergency Medical Personnel was on hand including over 100 Paramedics from the City of Pittsburgh, over 170 prehospital care givers from within Allegheny County, over 135 regional and state prehospital care givers.  Units and personnel were staged over multiple points with in and surrounding the City.  EMS units staged in downtown Pittsburgh including the D.L. Convention Center.  An Ambulance and the City of Pittsburgh Rescue Truck stood by with in the D.L. Convention Center during the Summit.  Multiple EMS treatment stations were constructed for the general public and emergency personnel.  Such areas were set up as mass casualties collection points.   Areas used for emergency services rehab centers and rest areas.  EMS units were used to stage with the Presidential Motorcade as well as other Dignitaries Motorcades.   Multiple schools were used as MCI rally points for helicopter evacuation if needed.     Baldwin EMS involvement included,  Chief Plunkett's assistance in planning and management.  He was also available to respond to incidents as an incident commander.  In addition Rescue 510 stood by at the Phipps Conservatory during the Presidential Dinner.  An ALS Ambulance and crew was used in the Downtown and Oakland area..  Squad 518 was used for the Forward Aid Support Team(FAST), this team consisted of 11 Paramedics, 2 MD's and 1 EMT.  Three Employees from Baldwin were involved with the "FAST" Team.
