Ambulance Safety Awareness Program
| The Ambulance Safety Awareness Program is a multi-faceted project that is principally aimed at educating and training EMS providers on ambulance safety design changes. The project features Medic 515 and many state-of-the-art ambulance design changes. A fundamental goal of the project is to "spread the word" to as many EMS providers possible within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Therefore, the ASAP project and Medic 515 will be appearing at numerous conferences, expos and other scheduled events. |
On July 13, 14 and 15 Medic 515 was on display at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center as part of the Annual Pittsburgh Fire and EMS Expo. The three day Expo was very well attended and exposed the Ambulance Safety Awareness Program to many vendors and attendees from throughout the tri-state area.
On July 16 Medic 515 traveled to Annapolis, Maryland to take part in a conference held by State EMS Medical Directors from the Atlantic Council. An overview of the ASAP program was given along with a hands on show and tell of Medic 515. Medical Directors from 7 different states as well as representation form NHTSA attended the ASAP presentations.
The Ambulance Safety Awareness Program (ASAP) and Medic 515 visited the State Capitol as part of National EMS Week – Lt. Shiring had the opportunity to meet with the Pa. Department of Health Secretary Dr. Calvin B. Johnson and discussed the ASAP project. Thomas J. McElree, Director of EMSI, Joseph W. Schmider, Director of the Pa. Bureau of EMS were also part of the presentation to Dr. Johnson
